Using consumer-directed services (CD Services) is one way to help individuals lead more self-directed lives. CD services enable an individual to more closely meet his/her own unique needs. They give an individual more choice about who works for them, what duties a CD employee will perform, and when and where they will use services. ![]() Consumer-directed services (CD services) are services available under four of Virginia's six Medicaid Home and Community Based Services Waivers. CD services are directed by the individual. He/she is responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and if necessary, firing or letting go of an employee. ![]() CD services are different from agency-directed services in which the employee is hired by and works for an agency that provides services to individuals. In consumer-directed services, the employee works for the individual or for whoever is the CD employer. ![]() If an individual needs help managing his or her services, a family member or unpaid caregiver may assist the individual and may actually be the CD employer. |
