Weaving Early Intervention into a Child's and Family's Everyday Life
Quality Practices for Improving Child & Family Outcomes
A professional development opportunity sponsored by the Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia

Description:

In this workshop, you will learn how to weave the OSEP child indicators throughout the early intervention process. Weaving the indicators throughout the process, from referral through intervention, will help your team develop a more comprehensive understanding of a child’s unique strengths and needs in the context of family life. A better understanding of the child will strengthen the IFSP process and lead to more effective intervention, with the ultimate goal being improved outcomes for children and families.

In addition to learning about this process, you will also hear insights from staff of the 10 local systems who piloted the process as “early implementers.” These early implementers overwhelmingly recommended face-to-face training for the topics that will be covered and have provided feedback that has helped shape the workshop.

Why Is This Important?

This process of integrating the child indicators throughout the EI process will be fully implemented statewide July 1, 2013. It is vital that all service providers, service coordinators and system managers understand and participate in the process.

Learning Objectives:

After participating in this workshop, you will:
  • Understand why the OSEP child indicators are being integrated throughout EI process
  • Identify quality practices necessary for integrating the child outcomes into the EI process
  • Practice reviewing IFSP narratives to identify well-integrated summaries of the child’s strengths and needs
  • Reflect on personal and system practices as they apply to this process
  • Plan for personal and systematic changes to fully integrate the child indicators into local EI processes
