OPENING DOORS - UNLOCKING POTENTIAL: Developing Self-Determination and Academic Skills with Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

About this Third Annual Conference

This year’s conference, designed for teachers of the deaf/hard of hearing, related service providers and all who work with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in Virginia Public Schools, will focus on two very important issues: self-determination and effective instructional strategies.

The morning session will feature the much acclaimed VDOE sponsored I’m Determined Project which promotes self-determination/self-advocacy skill building for students with special needs. Students as young as 5, including students who are d/hh, are actively participating in their IEP meetings, expressing their needs and preferences, and working with their IEP teams to develop their goals. Learn about studentled IEPs and the proactive behavior focused “Good Day Plan.” Check out www.imdetermined .org

Afternoon presenters will share motivating ideas and evidence-based strategies that can be used in developing lesson plans for the new school year. Relevant exhibits will be available and door prizes too! You won’t want to miss this year’s conference!
