EHDI Family Support
Overview
Through funding by the Virginia Department of Health’s Early Hearing Detection & Intervention program (EHDI), support is provided to parents just learning of their newborn’s hearing loss and visits are conducted with hospitals and audiologist practices to learn more about hearing screening processes for infants and toddlers.
Major Activities
- Provide 1:1 emotional and informational support to parents just learning of their child’s hearing loss
- Contract with parents to act as 1-3-6 Family Specialists who will visit hospital newborn screening teams and audiologist practices to learn more about how they screen newborns and young children for hearing loss
- Publish an updated Virginia Resource Guide for Parents of Children who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing
